Long Term Work Support
Long Term Work Support is direct support provided for an individual to improve a person’s ability to independently maintain employment. Work Support is often provided in a person’s place of employment but also can be provided in a member’s home in preparation for work if it does not duplicate services already reimbursed as Home Support, Community Support or Employment Specialist Services.
Long Term Work Support Following Vocational Rehabilitation
While a consumer may have job coaching service provided by the Maine Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, this is for a defined and limited period of time. Should a consumer need support on the job site continued after the Maine Vocational Rehabilitation case is closed, then Long-Term Work Support, funded by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services is called into action to continue the job support for the consumer. EMPOWERS has provided this service to many consumers over the years and continues to currently do so.
Success Stories
“The Mount Desert Island (MDI) YMCA has a relationship with Empowers with one of our workers. Pam works great with us at the YMCA as well as the worker we have working for us. She helps keep everything in line and on track. Pam does a great job explaining what needs to be done and explains how important it is to follow steps to accomplish a goal. Pam has a great personality and is always a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Empowers to any organization.”

“I appreciate EMPOWERS for guiding my granddaughter Sarah with her work for the last four summers. Sarah works four hours a week during the six month tourist season as a helper on the maintenance crew at Fort Knox. Even though she loves working with Dave, she needs help focusing on completing tasks and staying calm in situations she finds stressful.
That’s where her job coaches from EMPOWERS are essential. They combine friendly, good humored, understanding with a no nonsense approach to getting the job done. Sarah’s first coach, Brenda MacLeod, introduced her to the work world in a positive way. She noticed when Sarah would become upset when to many tourist were around her and would move her to a quieter area.
Pam Small started working with her last month and has helped Sarah keep her cool when a situation became unpredictable.
I think the work ethic of the job coaches has helped her be a more willing worker at home as well.”

“Empowers has been providing job coaching services for my son Daniel since 2018.We couldn’t of asked for a better agency to help my son. His job coach Stephen never gave up finding different employment opportunities to try until they found the right fit for Daniel.
My son has gained not only job skills but also important life skills. From a boy that was so nervous to talk to anyone, now he will advocate his own needs to his boss. Daniel says that knowing his job coach is always available for guidance helps give him confidence.
Empowers has truly helped my son became a productive member of society and given him such wonderful confidence in himself.”
